Sprint Knows When You've Been Bad Or Good So Be Good For Blah Blah Blah
Come on, Sprint! Really? So, Sprint has been logging your data using baked in software called Carrier IQ. They say they aren't selling this information, but surely the temptation was there, right?
In a telling statement from Sprint, hidden away in a footnote on its introductory statement, is the comment that in order to be a carrier, Sprint needs to know which cell site you are using, the numbers you call and text and the web sites you visit. The statement reads, "Similarly, we know the cell site on which a phone is registering its location, which is necessary for the delivery of voice and data services. We also know the telephone numbers to which our customers initiated a call or sent a text. Such data is necessary to deliver communications services. In many cases the data collection is required by law and regulations." via androidcentral
This sort of data is what built Google. It's not a search company, it is an advertising company. Google uses your search patterns to better direct ad placement. So, the information that Sprint was collecting from their customer's has a price tag on it.
What did they do with it? Was the data stream billed to the customer? Did they sell it? Do you trust Sprint? Do you trust any carrier, for that matter? Check out the video that shows Carrier IQ caught red-handed at minute 5:05.
